OFF THE PANEL #14 - Daredevil: The Man Without Fear

In the series' fourteenth installment, The Sloth (Alex Koch) is once again joined by The Sissy (James Lewis) and a returning fixture of the show, The Satanist (Mike Napier), to discuss Frank Miller's last great superhero story and the definitive portrayal of the origin story that mythologizes one of Marvel's most underrated superheroes. Listen as three podcasters without fear discuss in detail what makes Matt Murdock tick, how cinematic fiction can be achieved in the pages of a comic, and most importantly, the lengths a blind man will go to in order to eventually beat up Stilt-Man. This is Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.'s Daredevil: The Man Without Fear.

Episode 100

In which The Off-Panelists look up in the sky to see a bird, or maybe a plane. No, wait, it's the Hulk... and he's fisting someone?! Listen in as the Sloth (Alex Koch) leads an all-star session featuring his fellow castmates, including the Southerner (Matt Johnson), the Skirt (Merce Mueller), and the Scotsman (SICBA Award-Winner John Lees) as they cap off 100 by saying goodbye to 2013 and sharing their favorite moments of the year in comics, from writers to books and even movie headlines, all culminating into the group's thoughts on a long-awaited casting announcement of an iconic third element of Zack Snyder's "Batman/Superman"!

Episode 98

In which the Off-Panelists find themselves joining a kindly figure in a bowtie as they leap into the Tardis and take a ride across time and space to maintain peace across the universe - and that figure is, of course, returning guest Wiegeabo! Join him, the Southerner, and the Sloth as they thumb their noses at a cranky Alan Moore while simultaneously geeking out over a special of Whovian proportions, Breaking Bad, and all sorts of other non-comic related subjects before finally getting to the comics themselves, including the latest (and most frightening) issue of Matt Fraction's Sex Criminals, a cavalcade of horror in Mark Waid's Daredevil, the decidely less scary installment of Brian Azzarello's Wonder Woman, the more perplexingly-fun-than scary debut issue of Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti's Harley Quinn, and more! I'm terrified just thinking about it all!

Episode 90

In which the Off-Panelists lead them in easy and get picked off one-by-one, returning after a week away only to discover that their lives have remained pretty uneventful. Unless you count heart-stopping foot races to the local train station, hypothetical suicide attempts gone hilariously wrong, and being framed for murder, that is! Join the Sloth, the Southerner, and the Scotsman as they ceremoniously pop The Standard's Comixology cherry before giving their takes on the recently announced Agent Carter television series, CW's casting of The Flash in Arrow, and more! Featured in this week's episode are reviews of the Villain's Month tie-in issue for Swamp Thing, Image Comics' latest debut from writer Ales Kot in Zero, the start of a brand new arc within the pages of Thor: God of Thunder, a potentially controversial issue of Mark Waid's Daredevil, and a review of the first trade of Five Ghosts: The Haunting of Fabian Gray, among others. Remember to say uncle.

In which The Off-Panelists find themselves split down the middle on the week's reviews! Taking the 'tensions are high' motto to heart, join the Scotsman, the Spainiard, and the Sloth as they delve into such topics as Fox's announcement to make an X-Force movie, the return of Marvel Knights, the Inhumans getting a new series, and more! Then, when it comes time to do the reviews, the gloves are off as the divisively minded take on such releases as Mark Waid's Daredevil, Scott Snyder's Batman and Superman Unchained, Jeff Parker's Batman '66, Robert Vendetti's Demon Knights, and even John Lees' own very book, The Standard! Yes, yes, yes, http://www.standardcomic.com. We get it, Lees. You're a bigshot.

In which The Off-Panelmen have no souls and betray the ones they love, as week two of the new format takes full effect - and they manage to go over time anyway! Join the Sloth, the Spaniard, the Skirt, and the Southerner as they mull over eachother's weeks before launching into full fappitude over the concept of Porno Jim Gordon, give into digital desires, express indifference towards the latest attempt to bring a popular comic to the big screen, compare and contrast between the Marvel and DC marketshare, and get evil by way of ridiculous numbering.

Following that, the four give reviews for such titles as the highly-anticipated relaunch of Astro City, the latest and handsomest installment of Fairest, the mysterious yet satisfying East of West, the time-hopping Miss Fury, and more!

Episode 74

In which The Off-Panelists come right out with it and get burned, pledge to be boring and take a horrifying tour around Glasgow, where ginger imps roam the land. After a disparaging look into eachother's dark side, join the Sloth, the Scotsman, and the Spaniard as they look into a myriad of the week's offerings, including the conclusion to Geoff Johns' nine year run on Green Lantern, a bizarre little diversion in the pages of Batman Incorporated, the new origin for a character in Justice League that made one podcaster squeal in delight, and question the legitimacy of the latest threat in Daredevil. Following the lightning round, they turn their attention towards the week's news, including a late addition to the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past that may spell trouble for Marvel's Avengers sequel and trailer reactions to Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. Episode 69

In which The Off-Panelists find themselves in the throws of passion and spoil other people's stories, as the Sloth and the Spaniard delve into a light week of books while the Scot, having read nothing for the week, looks on from afar. Following several attempts to move onto the book reviews, they finally succeed with talk of the month's dosage of The Man Without Fear in Waid's Daredevil, the realization that books can be read for the sake of reading with Justice League, artistry abound and talk of iconic runs to accompany Wonder Woman, and a lightning round that seems less like a dash and more like a crawl. Following this, the trio of triumphant failure embark on an extensive look at the 2013 Eisner Award nominees, Man of Steel trailer reactions, and the most important question of all - can a drunk girl find love in the crotch of another?

Episode 65

In which The Off-Panelists are a man down and dollar short, as they collectively turn on the cheapness of one of their own and stare at a shirtless Robert Kirkman with desire. Join in as The Scotsman, the Sloth, and the Southerner delve into the week's books with unexpected overlap, tackling such titles as the previously unannounced new BKV book The Private Eye, the other BKV book that's so good that it's getting too boring to review - Saga, the one book that proves Mark Waid can do no wrong in Daredevil, New Avenging in New Avengers, the end of an arc in Wonder Woman, and one man's torture continued through the existence of Justice League of America. Then in the news, listen to the three pour through 370 different stories at once, including a stockpile of creative team exits at DC, the second coming of Marvel Gaiman, and the one comic book this year that'll have you doing the Batusi all over again. Hope you enjoyed Fablecon, Sergio! But you can still burn in hell.

Episode 62

In which The Off-Panelists pair up a pair of pooches and win trivia contests, as the Spaniard, the Sloth, and the Southerner go about bringing forth yet another trio of terribly misinformed reviews and opinions. Beginning with their thoughts on the latest Gorr-centric chapter of Thor: God of Thunder, they also review standouts such as the "serious" issue of Daredevil, the Saga-esque issue of Saga and the supposed death of a major character, the conclusion to the "Throne of Atlantis" arc in Justice League, two polar opposite reactions to Hickman's latest chapter of Avengers, and finally, some Justice League of America #1 thoughts. Rantings, whatever. Also, beginning in this episode - The OPP Lightning Round! Which comics make the cut? Which are quietly ignored? All we know is, this podcast is a comics podcast wrapped inside a case for mental illness.

Once the confusion settles, the Spic, the Hick, the Prick, and SICBA Award Winner John Lees decide that Rob Liefeld is the true d-list of the comic book industry, before commencing the circle jerk for a Marvel book, getting onto eachother for not reading their own recommendations, complaining about the lack of a certain costume feature on one of DC's most recent reinventions, and fight against the dreaded menace of bald testicle lumps.
