Review: Return of the Super Pimps #1

If the title alone doesn’t do it for you, then I almost don’t know what else to say. Having been a major fan of the blaxploitation film genre for some time, Return of the Super Pimps was a no brainier for me to pick up and read. The first issue sets up a super team, the aforementioned Super Pimps, that rides in a pimpmobile (with the golden license plate BITCHSLAP) and is made up of characters like Ghetto Blaster, a technical genius whose super suit uses the power of funky 8-tracks to wipe the floor with his opponents, or the Lupine Lady of the Night herself Foxy Mama, and team leader Blackbeard who relies on his sentient Alan Mooreqsue beard to fight the forces of evil.

In which the crew is finally graced with the presence of their glorious leader, who boasts a triumphant return from the dead before going onto tell the exciting tale of how he, well, returned from his vacation. Following this, the group delves into the week's reviews before rounding out a shorter-than-usual episode with Marvel's triumphant moment in the spotlight, DC's endgame plan in the event of a backfire, the lack of any true news from the week in comics, and the orgy-related perils of holding the first (and maybe last) annual Morrisoncon. Get your LSD while it's hot, folks.

In which the crew starts off with four and ends up with three, as the token female of the group disappears under (not so) mysterious circumstances. In spite of the loss of both their female and the leader, once again nowhere to be found, OPP carries on with it's End of the Year retrospective, briefly skimming over reviews before launching into discussion about good comics of the past, bad comics of the future, and the secretly most terrifying man in the industry. We don't recommend sticking electrodes to your balls for this episode.
