Off Panelview Episode 4

In which the Bionic Bumpkin and the Cyber Spaniard are slaves to their habit... their digital comics habit, that is. From Super Pimps to monster killin' Elvis and even Hans Christian Andersen, this episode spotlights some of the best offbeat offerings in comics today.

Digital Comic Reviews:

Justice League Beyond #24

This book is 99% of the time the best book in the digital market. It almost never has any flaws as it expands upon the beloved Beyond Universe of the DCAU. Issue #24 re-introduces a character we all known and love from the past--Captain Marvel--in a new way that some may find interesting while others may find silly. Personally, I'm having a hard time trying to swallow.

Legends of the Dark Knight #53

Written by Charles Soule with art and colors by Dennis Calero, issue 53 marks the start of "Riddler in the Dark", a three issue story to play out in the coming weeks. As you can guess, the story is Riddler related. I’ve always been a sucker for a good Riddler story and this looks like the start of the first one we’ve seen in comics for some time. With an appropriately enigmatic first move by the Riddler, the game begins as Batman prepares to start the first leg of his quest to stop Nigma. Calero’s art and colors here are great, with only a slight knock in the odd mask/tattooed question marks underneath Riddler’s eyes.

Batman: Li'l Gotham #12

This title always has its good and meh kind of issues. Sometimes it is extremely clever just like you want it to be and other times it overplays itself and tries too hard to be funny. This issue doesn't start off the best but luckily redeems itself when it pans over to what the direct Bat Family themselves are doing for Father's Day.

Legends of The Dark Knight #53

In terms of quality, Legends of The Dark Knight has only a few misses compared to it's many hits. And this isn't a miss, for one reason only - The Riddler gets the spotlight. Often criticized as a joke villain that Batman can easily outwit and defeat, it isn't often that the Prince of Puzzles gets his due. But Charles Soule of recent Swamp Thing fame sought to change that with a little entry that shows not only how The Riddler can outsmart not just Batman, but the police as well, but also why he's such a unique villain. It's the first part of three, but I'm already sold for parts two and three.
